This course takes a multifaceted deep dive into the subject of structural variations of the hip joints, to look at how uniqueness in the shape of people’s hip joints is relevant to some of the commonly explored hip positions and loads in asana. You will learn about the following:
- Femoral torsion angles
- Femoral neck angulations
- Hip joint anatomy
- The difference between osteokinematics and arthrokinematics in hip movement
- What research shows us about the prevalence of structural variation of the hips
- How to modify common asanas to better accommodate variation of hip joint structure
- How to make your teaching cues more inclusive of the wide variety of structural variation your students will have in your group classes
This 40-minute class is designed to inspire awareness of uniqueness in yoga students’ bodies, the kind of uniqueness we can’t always see but that we nevertheless know is there.
