About Yoga with Resistance Bands Joint Play Series
Are you…
…Ready to take your practice and teaching beyond the context of “traditional” yoga asana?
…A teacher looking for practical ways to apply knowledge of muscle physiology and biomechanics to movement?
…Unsure of how to integrate strength and stability work into your yoga classes?
…Struggling with frequently injuring and re-injuring yourself in yoga due to past injury or hypermobility?
Find Your Footing: Standing and Balancing Poses with Resistance Bands
Friday, March 15, 2:00pm-3:30pm
This foot, ankle and knee focused Yoga with Resistance Bands class explores corrective exercises and classic asanas building toward the skills of common standing and balancing poses. After practicing several stability and balance enhancing exercise progressions, partake in a playful balancing pose sequence. The bands provide incredible feedback for ‘striking a pose’ with more grace, poise and strength.
If you frequently suffer from foot or knee pain, this class may help you learn corrective exercise techniques and pose practice strategies to improve your strength, stability and motor control – proven ways to reduce pain!
Every pose and exercise will incorporate one or more resistance bands. Bands will be provided!
NOTE: immediately following this workshop will be a 120 minute Body of Knowledge™ Joint Play anatomy session all about the feet, ankles and knees.
Hip Deep: Active Hip Openers with Resistance Bands
Friday, March 22 2:00pm-3:30pm
This hip-stability and mobility-focused Yoga with Resistance Bands class explores a combination of corrective exercises and classic asanas building toward the skills of popular hip openers like pigeon pose. After a dynamic, logical and playful sequence, you will practice a hip opening sequence statically held, as well as in an adventurous, dynamically-flowing way. The bands provide the opportunity to increase the stability of the hip joint, which often in turn, helps increase its mobility, too!
If you frequently suffer from common yoga-related injuries like sacroiliac joint pain and hamstring attachment injuries, this class may help you acquire a protocol for your home practice to improve your strength, stability and motor control – proven ways to reduce pain!
Every pose and exercise will incorporate one or more resistance bands. Bands will be provided!
NOTE: immediately following this workshop will be a 120 minute Body of Knowledge™ Joint Play anatomy session all about the hips and sacroiliac joints.
Get Coreganized!: Twists and Backbends with Resistance Bands
Friday, March 29 2:00pm-3:30pm
This core strength and stabilization Yoga with Resistance Bands class explores a combination of corrective exercises and classic asanas building toward a variety of twists and backbends. After a dynamic “coreganizing” sequence, you will apply your newfound sense of core control to the practice of spinal rotations and extensions. The bands provide the opportunity to strengthen the ‘muscular slings’ of the shoulder-core and pelvic-core complexes for better integration from your center to your periphery!
If backbends or twists cause you to feel low back or sacroiliac pain, this class may help you acquire better coordination between your hips, shoulders, and core and practice these poses pain free!
Every pose and exercise will incorporate one or more resistance bands. Bands will be provided!
NOTE: immediately following this workshop will be a 120 minute Body of Knowledge™ Joint Play anatomy session all about the core canister.
Shouldering the Burden: Inversions with Resistance Bands
Friday, April 5 2:00pm-3:30pm
Partake in the challenging process of practicing inversions in small, doable, progressive chunks! Learn smart and effective progressions to help you cultivate coordination and strength skillfully. This workshop highlights the journey, not the destination. Experience how working with external resistance can lead you toward increased confidence, precision and grace in your inversions practice. You may go upside down for the first time, or even strike a balance!
If inversions intimidate you, this class may give you confidence by offering you a clear, logical path toward enhancing the strength, stability and coordination you need to go upside down safely.
Every pose and exercise will incorporate one or more resistance bands. Bands will be provided!\
NOTE: immediately following this workshop will be a 120 minute Body of Knowledge™ Joint Play anatomy session all about the shoulders and neck.
Wrist Resilience: Arm Balances with Resistance Bands
Friday, April 12 2:00pm-3:30pm
Do chaturanga, down dog and arm balances hurt your wrists? Often it’s because we aren’t loading our wrists in diverse enough ways so that they can manage the pressures of weight-bearing poses in yoga. Resistance bands provide a key missing ingredient in learning to vary the load and improve wrist resilience – they provide opportunities to pull! After a dynamic “wrist resilience” building sequence, you will apply your newfound sense of shoulder, elbow and wrist awareness and stability to a practice of arm balances scaled and tailored for your ability.
If wrist pain’s got you down, this class may help you acquire useful strategies to progress your wrist’s ‘soft tissue toughness’ and eventually be able to handle the high loads of your favorite weight-bearing and arm-balancing poses pain free!
Every pose and exercise will incorporate one or more resistance bands. Bands will be provided!
NOTE: immediately following this workshop will be a 120 minute Body of Knowledge™ Joint Play anatomy session all about the elbows and wrists.
